Should you decide to allow your customers to choose the termination provider for their calls, for example; you may wish for them to be able to specify whether they would like to termninate their call via a more expensive "Premium" service, offering an improved call quality, you may also offer a "Standard" service which is of a slightly lower quality - and is therefore cheaper, this can be achieved by entering a prefix to a destination number.

The configuration process consists of two parts; the routing side and the customer side.

Setup Route Categories


The configuration should ensure that, when the user inputs a certain prefix, a call is routed through the appropriate route.

Firstly, decide on the criteria the routing will fill - following on from our example, you may want to specify routes with varying call quality, for example; "Premium", "Standard", and "Budget".

Then, create route categories matching the options that you wish to present to your customers, i.e. "Budget", "Standard", and "Premium", or to that effect, as seen in the image above.

Setup Route Plans


Note the distinction between 'Route Categories' and 'Route Plans'.

The route categories created in the previous step will now be available for inclusion in a route plan, conventionally a route is selected by availability and administrator preference, however, for our example - using a prefix to select a route we will need to create a routing plan for each routing category.

Select add in the 'Route Selection' screen and enter;

  • The name of the route
  • Specify the selection code (prefix) to connect via this route
  • A brief description of the route
  • Then select the 'Add' tab and select the associated route category (which was created in the previous step)
  • Save and close


You will then now notice the route plan has been added to a list, create route plans for the remaining route categories and continue to the next step.


You now need to include the route category information in your Vendor tariffs. Destinations offering premium quality would be assigned route category 'Excellent', a standard route category will be defined as 'Standard', and the lowest quality (and cheapest) ones would have the route category 'Budget' or 'Bad'. Typically, all destinations within the same tariff will have the same route category, but you may choose to use several different categories in just one tariff.

Customer Related Configuration


You will also need to make some changes to the customer configuration;

First, you must enable the customers to select their desired routing plan. This is done in Customers Screen > Dialing Rules (tab); the dialing rules must be enabled, which in turn gives access to enabling routing plan selection.


Second, the products' accessibility needs to be adjusted, relfecting the fact that prices vary depending on the routing plan selected. To do this, you would need to specify the tariff as 'Assign Tariff per Routing Plan' [1]; this then gives the option to specify different tariffs to be used with each available routing plan. There is no need to specify an Access Code; the routing plan is distinguished based on the Selection Code.
